Often times we neglect ourselves to serve the wants and needs of others. Usually to our detriment emotionally and physically. Over the months, I have learned some harsh lessons. The most important of these was when to say no.
Setting personal boundaries can be difficult. I’ve spent much of my time being a people pleaser. Avoiding certain conflicts for fear they would reject me. To an extent, my assumptions were accurate. Some couldn’t handle that I needed to do what was best for me. Though this has caused some hurt feelings, it was a necessary step towards recovery. A person cannot be of any help to others if they cannot help themselves.
